GLSSWRT, 2024—ongoing
Michelle Caron-Pawlowsky and Romy Zaman

GLSSWRT (glass·wort) is a summoning spell of the postnatural through fieldwork practice and extended lab, choral scores, and sound installations. It is a science-fiction, a willful transmutation, a sonic ecology, and a collective project between Michelle Caron-Pawlowsky, Romy Zaman, and all their collaborators.

Summoning (Auld Wives Lifts), 2025
12-channel sound installation, 15:11:24

Summoning (Auld Wives Lifts) is a collaborative project born from Auld Wives Lifts. This sonic installation stems from a choral score created through fieldwork interventions at Auld Wives Lifts on the 15th of November, 2024. This piece is a summoning of the elements around Auld Wives Lifts on that day, and the hundreds of years of elemental formation and human connection to the site. Three boulders carried to the muir in the aprons of three women, or three witches, as a test of strength, sculpted by wind and inscribed over centuries by curious humans, interpreted by us, and summoned here by a choir of our friends.

The erosion patterns and carvings of each boulder were scanned using a portable scanner, and the wind patterns were recorded using our SWORD (Speculative Wind Oscillation Recording Device). From these, two asemic scores were made to represent each element and were vocally interpreted by twenty-four participants. The result is a supernatural choir and summoning spell, one that includes moments of vocal confluence and divergence, harmony and chaos.
