Pour chasser le diable s'inspire de La chasse-galerie, un conte folklorique québécois qui raconte l'histoire de huit bûcherons qui font un pacte avec le diable. Ce projet interroge notre compréhension du folklore, le pouvoir de la tradition orale et les profondeurs de l'imagination collective, en construisant un monde qui existe entre la vérité et la fiction. En invitant des artistes à incarner le personnage du diable de La chasse-galerie et en créant un portrait participatif et fantasmagorique, je cherche à dévoiler un personnage clé que l'on ne voit ni n'entend jamais dans l'histoire elle-même.
Pour chasser le diable draws from La chasse-galerie, a centuries-old Québécois folktale about eight lumberjacks who make a deal with the devil. This project investigates our understanding of folklore, the power of oral tradition, and the depths of collective imagination, building a world that exists between truth and fiction. By inviting performers to embody the character of the devil from La chasse-galerie and creating a participatory, phantasmagoric portrait, I aim to unveil a key character that is never actually seen nor heard from in the story itself.
